Shitloads of Mixes
We've just put up loads of mixes on our Mixcloud account. These were mixes that we did for a CD that we gave away to new students during freshers week, we only pressed up 1000 copies and our intention was to release all these mixes with our app that is on the way, its taking a little longer than expected so we thought it best to get these mixes out there asap. For the time being they are only on Mixcloud although we have included a download link in the description. We'll have them up on itunes asap. We've put 3 of the 6 mixes for you below but feel free to jump on over to our Mixcloud and grab the other 3

Paul Chambers Interview
KK - Firstly, you’re the most well-dressed techno artist we know! Do you only feel right busting out some jams in a suit? And how many do you actually own?
Paul - I only own one suit. And I use it only for my live performances, it just feels right to wear it when I play live. But sometimes when I Dj I leave it at home.
KK - 2ManyDjs have been massive supporters of your music and you were one of the main supports on the Soulwaxmas tour recently. How did they discover you and can you describe your relationship with them?
Paul - I was working with them on their movie "Part of the Weekend Never Dies" doing some of my video magic. But after they found out that I was a producer as well, they were very interested in my live set since we share the same love for analog gear. They gave me a slot on their Soulwaxmas tour and it went very well. A while later I gave them "Yeah, Techno!". From there on they became instant fans. But by that time we were already becoming friends and that is really the kind of relationship we have, a friendly one.
KK- You’re live set consists of your own music, edits and remixes but we understand you also DJ too. Tell us how your live set and DJ set varies?
Paul - The live set is with synths and machines which contain the sounds I need to play the tracks live. Anything can happen, and it sounds very different and sometimes brutal. I can adjust the sound to the venue or people. The Dj set is like any other Dj set, I play music which is pre-recorded.
KK - When can we expect some new material from you this year? Can we expect more collaborations (with Shinichi Osawa?) or solo releases?
Paul - There's a lot of stuff on its way. Right now I'm working hard on a release with Shinichi Osawa which should be done soon. And after that I want to release my own stuff which has been waiting to be worked on for too long now.
KK - Judging by your various social networking updates..you spend A LOT of time in the studio. So what do you do outside the studio to keep you sane? (Or is it the studio that keeps you sane?!)
Paul Yes, it seems like I'm living in my studio right now. But this is because Shinichi and I have a deadline for the record. But I don't think anything can keep me sane. I don't want to be sane, that would be boring. But being in the studio for a long time can be a very strange experience because it creates this bubble. It's a comfortable bubble too, but sometimes you have to get out to breathe. And sometimes the bubble doesn't like me too much so I stay away from it for a while.
KK - We couldn’t help but noticing outside of music coffee seems your main vice. So…how do you take yours?
Paul - It's not about how I take it. More about the quality of the beans and how it's made. I can enjoy an espresso or two, maybe a cappuccino and even a filter can be amazing if you just do it right. One of the most important things is that you grind your own beans, and grind them right before you make the coffee. And the temperature has to be right too, it shouldn't be boiling because you will burn your coffee and that really screws things up. One thing I don't use is sugar, it's just something people are used to to cover up the nasty taste of badly brewed coffee. Keep it simple.
KK- Thanks Paul..can’t wait to have you in Glasgow!
Paul I'm looking forward to it!

FIRST HOUR MUSIC.....By David Sinclair
When we first started Killer Kitsch I was incredibly excited about it for various reasons. One of which was getting to play pretty much whatever I wanted in the first hour. As we’ve mentioned on many occasions, Optimo were undeniably our biggest influence and I believe that they utilised the first hour better than anyone. The first hour is when people are just getting in to the club, having a seat, a drink and a chat. The calm before the storm, if you like. This is an ideal chance for a DJ to go off the beaten track a little with their selections. Each week I look forward to coming in and playing tunes I would normally only hear in my bedroom. So - here are 10 of my favourite first hour tunes.
1. Pierre Barrouh – Samba Saravah
This song is featured on the soundtrack for the French film ‘A Man & A Woman’. My parents had a cassette, which had that on one side and the soundtrack to ‘Midnight Express’ on the other. Quite a contrast! The soundtrack is now quite hard to get hold of, however I did pick up a copy on vinyl about 6 years ago at Mixed Up Records for a mere 2 pounds!
2. Can – Future Days
I only got round to listening to Can about 4 or 5 years ago. I remember reading an interview with James Murphy talking about his favourite albums and he said that Future Days was the one record he couldn’t live without. Now having listened to it countless times, I can totally see where he’s coming from.
3. Sister Nancy – Bam Bam
A reggae standard, which I first heard on a Scratch Perverts mix album, although I had previously heard traces of it on a Lauryn Hill track. I received the 12” as a Christmas present and it was the first record played at the first ever Killer Kitsch.
4. Tom Waits – What’s He Building?
Now for something from one of my all time fave artists: I regularly play Tom Waits in the first hour, but this is the track which always gets a (slightly shocked) reaction from punters and bar staff. I believe Muse used to walk on stage to it. You can find it on the highly recommended ‘Mule Variations’ album.
Tom Waits - What's He Building
5. Pavement – Summer Babe
I’ve never got hugely into Pavement. I mean, I like bits and pieces of their stuff, but it’s honestly pretty much their poppiest stuff that ticks the boxes for me. I particularly love the bit towards the end of this track where Stephen Malkmus euphorically shouts, ‘Don’t go!’
6. Son House – John The Revelator
Last the year the magazine ‘Mojo’ celebrated it’s 200th issue, by inviting Tom Waits to edit that months’ edition. Tom also compiled that months’ free CD. That CD – entitled ‘Step Right Up’ and featured this track – is easily one of my favourite compilations ever. John The Revelator is a traditional gospel/blues track which, which has been recorded and inspired tracks by many acts including: Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Beck and R.E.M.
7.Miles Davis - Shhh/Peaceful
Well I had to get at least one jazz record in here! Euan and myself are both huge fans of Miles. A few years back we did a more chilled out mix for KK entitled buffed out and this featured on it. From the album 'In A Silent Way', which I cannot recommend enough! Also, it's 18 minutes long. So it's quite handy if i'm djing on my own and still have things to do around the club.
8. Captain Beefheart – Too Much Time
One of my favourite tracks from one of my favourite albums ever!! A lot of people find Captain Beefheart hard to get into. I think mainly because they attempt to start with the notoriously difficult ‘Trout Mask Replica’ record. This is featured on the album ‘Clear Spot’. You need this record in your life!
Cool Blog With Captain Beefheart Documentary On It
9. Jackie Mittoo - Merry Go Round
I used to be a fairly regular listener to the craig charles funk and soul show on 6 music. One of the features he had (and may still have) was called 'hammond time', where he played a track which featured the hammond organ. That's where I found this unique little number.
Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show
10. Nas - Life's A Bitch
I love hip hop, but mostly stuff from the early nineties. Souls of Mischief, Gang Starr and the Wu-Tang Clan all regularly feature in my first hour sets. Nas is amazing and still continues to release quality material, however I doubt he will ever top his debut record (Illmatic), which this is taken from. It also recently featured in the film 'Fish Tank'.

A Quiet Chat With Bart B More
KK - We’ve been closely following your tour documentary videos and they are an entertaining insight into the life of a travelling dj! Tell us about touring…Are you REALLY having that much fun? Or is your camera man just very good? We are jealous…
Bart - Touring is definitely a lot of fun. Every day is different, you go to a different city and meet new people. Plus you're pretty much always in the nightlife so you experience lots of crazy random stuff. I try to go with the flow and enjoy traveling the world and dj'ing as much as possible. Of course it's sometimes tough to do without a fair amount of sleep and my 'normal life' back home but the good parts always make up for the bad parts by far.
KK - Boys Noize signed your track “Brap” to his BNR label. Whose support does it take to have you overwhelmed?
Bart - Releasing that record on BNR was great, all they release is quality music so I was really happy to have it signed there. Recently I was pretty overwhelmed when I found out Basement Jaxx were playing my tracks. In my eyes they are heroes, they were making the music people are making right now 10 years ago.
KK Your own label Secure Recordings has had some big releases from acts including Riva Starr, Diplo and Bingo Players. Are there and new acts you have your eye on who could one day release from the label also?
Bart - Yes, we have a great EP coming up from a big dutch talent Dem Slackers who I also did a remix for. I think he's a big talent and I'm really excited about having him on board to do stuff on the label.
Bart B More - Traction by Bart B More
KK - On that note..we have a few new favourite DJs ourselves..so we got them to put some questions to you! (Disclaimer: These are the views of the DJs and not us!!!)
Botnek: “when you go about starting a tune, do you usually start with solid ideas or just start from experimenting”?
Bart - I always start with an idea that's in my head but usually end up with something completely different that's just as cool. For me it's just all about trial and error. Try different stuff, experiment until you find something you like.
Lorcan Mak: "Whats your favorite release to date from your label Secure to play out at peaktime?"
Bart - I have to say my remix of Fierce Ruling Diva - Rubb It In. It was an absolute honour to remix this classic and it goes down really well everytime I play it.
Fierce Ruling Diva - Rubb It In (Bart B More Fierce Ruling Remix) by SecureRecordings
Clouds: "Would you rather DJ with gardening gloves on or Hula Hoops (the crisps) on your fingers?"
Bart - I'd rather eat Hula Hoops with gardening gloves on so I don't get it all over my fingers when I'm dj'ing
KK - You’ve recent output has varied in sound, from gypsy house (“Romane”), to the bastard brother of Proxy’s “Raven” (“Brap”) and also the Acid revival (“Drop Acid”). What sound are you feeling at the moment?
Bart - Lately I've been taking it back to the roots. Just stripped down drum patterns with crazy sounds and freaky synth lines. I want to make music with balls, stuff that guys could rage on but with enough funk and groove for girls to dance to, kinda like the best of both worlds.
KK - You recently played in Edinburgh and the videos looked crazy! It’s no secret that there is a rivalry between Glasgow and the capital..being completely honest…our clubs are much better. So…what will it take to beat Edinburgh? I hear there were moshpits?
Bart - I have to admit it was a really fun and crazy night in Edinburgh so it's going to be really hard for Glasgow to beat this. If you say Glasgow is going to be better I better mentally prepare myself cause i'll be in for one crazy night haha
KK - We seen on your twitter that you're an Ajax fan..well done on the league win! Just how have Holland not one anything of real note in the last few years? Being Scottish we can feel you pain as we are triumphant under-achievers...
Bart - I don't know, we have some of the best players in the world but somehow when the moment of truth is there they can't really handle the pressure. Hopefully one day we'll get that long awaited success we've all been waiting for so long, it's going to be epic! haha
KK - And finally. You like to tweet..so do we! How important is this for you? Keeping in touch with fans, friends, other DJs when on the move?
Bart - I love twitter. Seeing as I'm traveling a lot it's definitely a good way to keep up with everyone and everything that's going on in the world. It's a great way to get my new music to my followers too, I share bootlegs and edits and stuff and keep everyone informed about new stuff that's coming up. Music is a lot more fun when you can share it with people and twitter is a great way to do that.
KK - Thanks Bart...can't wait to have you in Glasgow! No problem, looking forward to it!

Get To Know......Peo De Pitte
We managed to grab a few seconds with Peo ahead of his DJ slot with us @ The Buff Club next week (24th May
KK - Firstly Peo, we know who you are...though some others might not...tell us what you do in a quick sentence!
I'm Peo de Pitte - they call me the god of beats! Sometimes I wear wigs, but mostly I just make music and DJ 24/7….
KK - Your remix of Sidney Samson “Riverside” is quite possibly your most “well known” tune. As an artist do you find it hard to get recognition for your own material after a successful remix? Or does it provide the perfect platform for your music?
I would say the second, it has helped me a lot and got me in touch with loads of new people from different parts and places. These days you never know what track or remix that will cut through. I personally thought I was way too late with that remix as it was rinsed before I did it. Then Ministry gave the original an official release around the time my remix came out and mainstream people just picked up on it. It's funny how certain tracks have such a long lifespan as everything else is very much dead within 2 weeks after a release today (which is such a shame).
KK - You recently asked your facebook fans for recommendations of some free music blog. Do you fully embrace blogs giving out free music and has it helped your career?
Yeah it has helped me a lot, blogs are a great way to reach out to the normal listener. I will have a new remix of Willow Smith and Rose Royce blogged very soon, stay put for that one! Boombastic sounds!
KK - How do you divide your time between running the label and producing? Is Peo the "dj/producer" and Peo the "A&R man" a different person or do they both come in hand and hand?
Making music today is so much about being able to juggle a lot of things at the same time. Apart from production and DJ'ing there is so much more to do, connecting with fans, updating all the social media, trying to sort out when the music is coming out etc. I learned a lot from running my own label and many good lessons have been learnt.
- KK - Originally being from Stockholm and now based in London, do you feel you need to be based in London for what you do?
Reason why I moved from Stockholm was that the club scene at the time was very anal and chin-stroking. There was either über commercial music or very minimal un-groovy techno on the bill everywhere, not much of diversity.
London gave so many good opportunities to work with other producers and I also got the opportunity to play my music to people who really appreciated it over here. Things seem to have changed in Sweden recently tho, there seems to be parties held which is doing more alternative dance music now. I will hopefully play a bit in Sweden this summer which will be great, I'm really looking forward to it!
KK - On that note, what do you miss most about Sweden? The questionable drinks prices (though surely London is not better)? The blondes? How is the club scene?
I miss the food!!!! There is so many good restaurants in Stockholm which I always visit when I'm home and yeah would lie if I'd say that there isn't a lot of nice good looking babes in Sweden ;)
KK - We have to ask as well…what was the reasoning behind the name “Berlusconi”? We have a few ideas ourselves….
Oh well, I'm sharing flat with another Italian producer 'Birdee'.. I used to take the piss of Berlusconi all the time with him and other Italian friends. I have the feeling Berlusconi knows how to throw a party eh… Pretty much what the track is about ;)
Bunga Bunga in Glasgow next week?!!!!

Quite Piste....a guide to Snowbombing
We (i was travelling with 3 friends) booked snowbombing quite far in advance, way before i remember any acts being announced, we were going mainly for the snowboarding side of it and i was pretty confident the line up would thow up somem things i'd like to see. Although i personally i had very little to do with the actual booking of the holiday, my friend Yvonne took care of that, she had been before and her knowledge of how it all was done was invaluable. The price of your ticket gets your wristband, which gives entrance to the majority of venues/parties, your accommodation is also included in your ticket. You can then add on flights, transfers, lessons etc all of this done through the snowbombing website, and you only have to put down an initial deposit, you can pay the rest up when you have the cash. One thing that isnt included in the price of your ticket is a trip to the nigh time parties at the Arctic Disco i would however strongly advise going to at least one if them, you wont regret it. Tickets for this can be bought through the snowbombing website.
The Arctic Disco
The Arctic Disco or The White Lounge as its also know is a massive iglo with 3 rooms, one for dancing, one for chillin' (quite literally) in with some seats with tables made out of ice, and a bar. The bar isn't the best stocked bar, so no Jack Daniels, but there is plenty of Jager to go round, so we'll have some of that. Events at the Arctic Disco this year ran on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday - Saturday We go for the first night, (a good idea in retrospect as we end up being a bit more jaded by the end of the week, you'll see this if you read on) which turns out to be The Fabric night with Jackmaster doing a back to back set with Rinse FM's Oneman, didn't think it would be my cup of tea but both dj's are 2 of the most technically proficient i have ever seen, with only one working turntable between them they drop all kinda of stuff. Oneman even plays Girl Unit - Wut, i thought i hated that tune, but it sounds great.
Lil Wayne - A Milli (Scottie B Remix)
Indo - R U Sleeping (Bump & Flex Remix)
Hardrive - Deep Inside
Girl Unit - Wut
The Arctic Disco is also open during some afternoons and tickets don't have to be purchased for these times, it's probably best to take your board or ski's up with you as the wide open slopes at the top of the Ahorn Mountain make it a great place to get some relaxing boarding done, We go up on the Thursday as I'm playing in at the Data Transmission party with Satan's Circus
Tom Trago - Use Me Again
Le Le - Breakfast (Mercury Remix)
The Rest Of The Week
We checked out most of the venues over the course of the week, on the second night we ended up in Bruck n Stadl to see Carl Craig, when we arrive Agoria is on warming the place up and its pretty busy, we get a table up near the back, have a few drinks and wait until Carl comes on As always Mr Craig seems so relaxed and laid back, almost emotionless when he is DJ'ing. After Carl's set we pop down to the Arena nightclub as we are keen to see how a Jackmaster & Skream back to back disco set sounds. When we get there Fake Blood is on, he was meant to be doing a hip hop set tonight but its definitely not hop hop he's playing when we arrive, maybe he played it for an hour and the crowd weren't into it or something. By the time Skream & Jackmaster hit the stage its 3am and I'm knackered, 3 days of drinking and boarding have rendered me useless, so i never did get to see what they play, i'm told later it great. I'm not sure what i think of the Arena though, i think I'm more a small club guy.
Tuesday, the only place i visited was the fridge in our apartment, and that was to get some soft drinks. i feel rubbish.
Wednesday we are back in business and back in Bruck n Stadl to catch SBTRKT. It's 12am where the fuck is everyone though? ….SBTRKT just gets on with it though, its the first time i have heard him believe it or not, sounding pretty good, a lot louder than the Monday was. Disaster strikes though, the sound cuts out and the club is plunged into silence. Seems like he is having some laptop issue's i think, he has to remove his mask to fix whatever has gone wrong, which raises a smile from me. We use the break in the music to make our way to the exit and pop next door for our first visit to Schlussel , where we know Jackmaster is playing, The Schlussel could be the most unhealthy (but amazing and heavenly) place in world, a pub where you can drink, smoke, eat kebabs (its got its own take away inside) all while listening to music, whatever fears you have about the danger your doing to your health though can be lost on the tiny dancefloor. Awesome place, it really is.
Thursday night is the night we have been building up to I'm ultra keen to see Ramadanman play at the FACT night @ The Euorphaus , we make our way to the venue for the start time of 10pm, The FACT Dj's are on when we arrive, its not very busy, but I'm more struck by how unsuitable this venue is for a club night, its like conference room at the SECC. Somehow I manage to convince my mates to go to the Racket Club round the corner while this busies up, Sub Focus is on shortly, we can come back here later. Entering the Racket Club its all i feared it would be, IT IS THE SECC, only in Austria, and Sub Focus isn't on just now his time has been changed, time to drink up and get out of here. We make our way back up the hill to our favourite bar stroke restaurant Cafe Tirol, we went here a few times for food and loved it, its good for drinking too, especially on a lovely night like tonight is. Its then back down the hill to the Europhaus, Jamie Woon is on now and its now packed, and with more people here the venue just seems to make more sense, maybe its his and the venues blandness blending together, they seem quite suited to one another. i pop outside for a quick cigarette when i return everyone has vanished, except my pals. quite literally nearly everyone has left. I mean what the fuck, this makes me so sad that we live in a world where Jamie Woon gets a full crowd and Ramandaman gets to play to 20 people. How can all those people know Jamie Woon and not Ramadanman, don't they read the FACT blog, don't they listen to the podcasts i thought they all know who he was and stay and watch him DJ, maybe have a dance but no….ah fuck it, I head to bed so i can make the most of my last day boarding i hear the next day that Ramadanman played another set at the Bruck n Stadl later the previous night….Bugger.
Last Night here in Mayrhofen and tonight its all about the Forrest Party with The Prodigy & Beardyman. Just before we leave the apartment i see the line up for Schlussel tonight on the Snowbombing Blog. Ewan Pearson, Space Dimension Controller, Jamie Jones, James Zabelia & Ramadanman, Fantastic, seems a good idea to get all the best DJ's playing on the last night, go out with a bang. We make our way into the forrest, its only 5 mins from our apartment, making our way into where the stage is i am struck by how small it is, its is THE PRODIGY tonight and this is pretty much the only thing on at this time so i suspect most people would be making their way here for this. 7pm now and Beardyman is on, and he is superb very entertaining and very funny you cant help but smile. Who's next ? Toby One. No idea who he is, so we decide to make our exit back to the apartment we have all seen the Prodigy loads of times before, as we're leaving the security guys says that if we leave there is no chance of getting back in, a quick look to right reveals why, the queue of people waiting to get in is about 2 years long its so MASSIVE and the Prodigy aren't even on for another 45 mins. We make our way back for a few more drinks in the apartment (passing James Zabelia on the way, he wont have to wait in the queue) and then we are out the door again at 10pm to head to Schlussel, queue is out the door when we arrive, its not a queue to get in though its the queue for the kebab shop. We are hungry though so we tack onto the end of it and wait, then just as we get to the door we find out that the line up on the blog must have been a misprint, as its defiantly not Ewan Person thats playing. A proper printed line up inside the venue confirms my fears so we eat up and head back to for some sleep ahead of our journey home.
